Own your PV solar panels

“If you have had PV solar panels installed in your home over the last 12 months, then the answer to this question is probably no!”

Record solar panel installations this year.

If you do buy your solar panels, then well done, you will be rewarded generously for your purchase over the coming years. However, if you are one of the thousands of people who have another company’s equipment, i.e. free panels, on your roof, then sadly you will not receive benefits as generous.

The industrial-scale feeding frenzy, which has given rise to some companies who offer free solar panels, has brought the feed-in tariffs scheme to a conclusion earlier than planned. (more…)

Early bird catches the PV solar worm

“A year has passed since the Comprehensive Spending Review, and the PV solar panel industry is nervous as to what the upcoming Comprehensive Consultation on the feed-in tariffs holds.”

There's nothing more powerful than when a PV's time has come.

There’s nothing more powerful than when PV’s time has come.

The take-up for photovoltaic or PV solar panels has been tremendous since the feed-in tariffs began in April last year, so good that it is clear that the high rate of feed-in tariff offered to new adopters will have lowered sooner than the 2013 date specified initially.

The current budget will not sustain another year of growth, with the demand for PV solar technology so strong, with around 550MW installed since the feed-in tariffs began. Bringing in a lower rate of the feed-in tariffs to newer adopters seems almost inevitable.

This situation was made apparent at the Conservative conference this week when George Osborne publicly attacked green laws and regulations. Piling costs on to energy bills and appeared to abandon earlier aspirations of leadership for the UK on the low carbon economy. (more…)

Free PV solar panels coming to an end

“Why would a company spend £10,000 to install PV solar panel on your home for free?”

Solar panels are a great investment opportunity

Solar panels are a great investment opportunity

Answer: To make money from you, your home and the government’s feed-in tariffs scheme, which is intended to reward early adopters of solar panels.

This type of practice will soon be outlawed to prevent, under new proposals, energy companies taking advantage of those who will not be able to afford to buy solar panel installations of their own.

Companies making such offers have sparked a flurry of enthusiasm from people wishing to have free solar panels installed in their homes, but most are unaware of the pitfalls of such an arrangement. That is why the energy secretary Chris Huhne, has vowed to stop such practices taking advantage of people on lower incomes in most cases. (more…)

A PV solar-powered future

“Why our future is solar-powered?”

The PV solar panel apocalypse in the UK between 2012 and 2018.

What does the future hold for us? Will humankind continue to reach for the stars now that the space shuttle is retired and will we power our homes using the sun’s energy in the 21st century? These are just some of the questions we put to the founder of Power My Home, Stuart Lovatt.

Born at a time when we detach from living with nature in the raw, only needing to survive in the ‘bubble’ we call civilisation, I, like you, have never had to think about my place in nature. (more…)

Finding MCS accredited solar installers

“Stuart Lovatt, the founder of Power My Home and a solar panel expert, has today devised a guide for homeowners, following reports which revealed that cowboy salespeople misled potential buyers of solar panel installations.”

Mr Lovatt says “The results of a consumer survey on this subject are worrying and could damage the reputation of our new fledgeling solar industry. Although solar panels are nothing new and have been around for 60 years, the government’s feed-in tariff scheme, which rewards pioneer adopters of solar technology, is leading some individuals and companies to give false information to cash in on naive consumers.”

It has shown that as many as 7 out of the 12 companies selling solar technology recommended putting solar panels on a shaded part of a roof, and a third of solar companies are over-estimating the energy generated by PV electric and solar heating panels. (more…)

Act with PV solar feed-in tariffs

“Did you know that the government-backed feed-in tariff scheme will offer homeowners fantastic returns for an early adoption of PV solar panels (photovoltaic) technology?”

Did you also know that the feed-in tariff is structured so that later adopters of these fantastic technologies will receive much smaller incentives as solar panels become popular?

The fact is that homes across the world are all experiencing higher energy costs, with the United Kingdom (being at the end of the supply chain) feeling the worst of those rises. With the UK and Europe depend more and more on Russian supplies, predictions by all six of the big major energy companies are not good for the British consumer. (more…)

The solar PV tariff incentive

“John and Mary, an ordinary couple from Lincolnshire who has recently invested in solar panels for their home explain in their own words why they took the plunge.”

“We have just had a 4kW photovoltaic panel system fitted to our east-facing roof, not only as an ethical investment but because it makes financial sense.

There is currently a window of opportunity to take advantage of a clean energy cash-back scheme, guaranteed by the government for a 20 year period, but if you defer your installation for a few years, your entry benefits will be less, so don’t wait to make the decision. (more…)

PV solar panels are the future

“Food for thought and learning from the history of the Roman Empire to discover that dependence on others is never a good thing. Why is PV solar panels technologies our future?”

PV solar panels are our future.

PV solar panels are our future.

This time, we look to the future, to establish what the future of our energy security will ultimately be if we continue to depend on energy from other sources, rather than our own, to keep on the lights.

The flight back home from a visit to Rome (the great city itself) took me over Germany, a country which also features in the history of the Roman Empire. Flying into Munich airport, the differences between Britain and Germany were very noticeable.

The start of Heat my Home began on a train journey to Salzburg in 2004, where I noticed the large numbers of solar panels on homes, even back then. The future was clear to me, and I decided to promote solar panel technology in its different forms. (more…)

Grants for solar heating panels

Solar Heating Panels including Evacuated Solar Tubes– £300 grant (available to all homes, regardless of the type of the existing heating system).

• Biomass boiler– £950 grant (for homes without mains gas).
• Air and ground source heat pumps– £850 grant (for homes without mains gas).

The coalition government unveiled a £15m Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme– which begins on 1 August and will run until March 2012. The incentive aims to support up to 25,000 microgeneration installations on a first come first served basis. (more…)

We had PV solar panels installed

“We at Power My Home have been shouting from the rooftops for many years about how brilliant PV solar panels are.”

There's nothing more powerful than when a PV's time has come.

There’s nothing more powerful than when PV’s time has come.

You don’t understand the benefits until you have seen them at work, so after asking some of our existing customers, we have had great responses, which you can, read some here:

“As scientists, we invested in solar water heating years ago, proved it worked and saved us money. Now we have paid for the expensive PV solar system which will give us a better return for our money than the building society. After all the space station which uses the technology proves the system works long-term.”
