A tale of stale friendship and the toxic pizza

Monday, February 25th, 2013

I have some wonderful and kind long-term friends back in my hometown, but searching for good or appropriate friends in my location seems to be harder to achieve. I write this for my son who one day will read this and hopefully learn from his daddies tale of woe.

Real friendship is forever.

Real friendship is forever.

After dropping off my son to his mothers, I decided Pizza would be a one-off treat for my tea, so I put this half supermarket and half self-made creation into the oven and waited with anticipation and a rumbling tum. Ten minutes later and the house filled with smoke!

Once the thick, toxic smoke had cleared, I discovered that someone had left a plastic grill handle in the bottom of a brand new oven, which I didn’t see when putting my pizza. The pizza was now toxic and as I am about to find out, so was a new friendship. (more…)

Opportunity with PV solar panels

Saturday, February 23rd, 2013

For as long as I can remember, I have been telling people that PV solar panels (photovoltaic) are a worthwhile investment for not only today but also so far into the future that you can’t yet imagine how.

There's nothing more powerful than when PV solar technologies time has come.

There’s nothing more powerful than when PV solar technologies time has come.

There are very few technologies that last or benefit their owners for over thirty years (Think of the car you were driving three decades ago), but this is not the reason I sing these much-misunderstood technologies praise.

The current incentives for solar panels aren’t set in stone. They will be reduced for later adopters when the inevitable happens, and mainstream people en mass are forced to install, just to keep their energy bills from spiralling out of control. (more…)

A sunny future for solar panels

Wednesday, January 30th, 2013

However, humanity’s horizons are filled with storm clouds. Already within one month of this new year, four astonishing things have happened that will change our thinking about the role solar panels will play in our society and the new forward-thinking political policies.

A forward-thinking strategy.

A forward-thinking strategy.

A new time of enlightenment or too little too late? You decide.

1. Barack Obama in his inauguration speech to the American people finally acknowledged that the global warming issue is a real human problem that will affect not just our kid’s future. Our generation, and the here and now, as global droughts, erratic climate changes begin to affect our ability to feed ourselves.

An historic week with no headlines

Friday, January 18th, 2013

Two historical moments occurred this week, but the most amazing aspect was the minimum media attention that you would aspect of such mammoth news events.

Catastrophe confirmation.

Catastrophe confirmation.

Firstly, the French President Francois Hollande made a speech at the green energy conference in Abu Dhabi finally admitting the world is on course for ‘environmental collapse’, saying “The world is headed for an environmental “catastrophe” if countries do not invest in renewable energy”.

This catastrophe is historic because no high-profile G8 world leaders except Barack Obama have ever admitted the true scale of the environmental problems we see today. Mr Hollande also added “If we don’t act, if we don’t do anything, if we don’t invest anything, we can be sure that we will have a catastrophe very soon”. (more…)

Extreme wealth hoarding is antisocial

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

Last summer’s youth riots, Arab spring and austerity protests showed how quickly society can break down and thus, we are now seeing wave after waving of draconian measures introduced to keep the working class, victims of the banking crisis and the youth in check.

Putting extreme wealth to good use.

Putting extreme wealth to good use.

I would argue that it’s the extreme wealth hoarders of the world who could help modern civilisation with its social and global warming problems.

In 2012, the world’s 100 wealthiest people became $241 billion richer. They are now worth $1.9 trillion: just a little less than the entire output of the United Kingdom.

Extreme wealth is very different from entrepreneurial wealth – Let me explain. (more…)
